Good Friday is finally here, and I hope all of you who are in Louisville will come to our Good Friday service at Memorial Auditorium (service times at 5:30 and 7:30pm). There will even be a food stand outside of Memorial for those of you who are worried about being pressed for time to eat dinner.
And we’re just two days from the most joyous time of celebration of the year — Easter Sunday. Death couldn’t hold Jesus in the grave, and it can’t hold you in the grave if you’ve put your trust in our risen Lord. With that in mind, here are five of my favorite Easter songs:
Jesus Is Alive by Shai Linne
No one is like Jesus. Not Buddha, not Mohammed, not all the false gods of this world. Shai Linne says it like nobody else. Check out this video, from back when Shai Linne joined with the Sojourn worship team on “Jesus Is Alive” a couple years ago:
Death In His Grave by John Mark McMillan
“On Friday a thief/ On Sunday a King”
This song gets me every time. Get it on Amazon here, read about it here, and get ready to sing with the guy who wrote it, because John Mark McMillan himself is coming to The 930 next Friday, April 13. I hope to see you all there.
He’s Alive by Dolly Parton
When Dolly finishes the verses and starts shouting “He’s Alive” on the chorus, that’s what Hallelujah feels like. Can’t beat it. Here’s a sample of “He’s Alive.”
All My Tears by Emmylou Harris
This one was actually written by Julie Miller, who has a good recording of it, as do many others. And I love when the Sojourn band rocks this one as well. Preview “All My Tears” here.
Warrior by Sojourn
Speaking of the Sojourn band, here is a Sojourn original from the Over The Grave album. Listen up:

Easter Song by Keith Green. Youtube it. So good, so good.
Seconded. It’s one of the songs that forms the soundtrack of my childhood.
I never heard it before… great song.
“See What A Morning” by Keith & Kristyn Getty. Great storytelling.
“Death is dead, Christ is risen from the grave!”
“Ain’t No Grave” (Gonna Hold This Body Down!) By Selah – Love it!
Hi Daniel, You should create a public Spotify playlist for people to subscribe to. I think Sojourn should also create a weekly playlist of the songs used during the week’s worship service. It would be nice to listen to them along side the sermon recordings. Looking forward to tonight’s service!
I’ll work on that. Thanks for the suggestion.
“You Were On the Cross” by Matt Maher.
Beautiful song about the death of Jesus.
Your Name Alone Can Save by Sovereign Grace. I can just listen to this song over and over again. I would also recommend everything else on their Risen CD. Here is a YouTube link to Your Name Alone Can Save http://youtu.be/8ZMGojEPWnU.
Great suggestions. Definitely expanding my resurrection playlist.
High Noon by Andrew Peterson
Old school hymn, Because He Lives!!!! Verse 2 is quite fitting for us this week!
